Farmers market handed-over to Agona Mankorong

Mankorong Nkwanta (C/R), Dec 22, GNA – Mrs Janet Odei Paintsil, the Agona East District Chief Executive (DCE), has called on her constituents to honour their tax obligation to help improve the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds (IGF).

That, she said, would help to supplement the Common Fund for more development projects to be provided.

Mrs Paintsil made the call at the inauguration and handing-over of a Farmers’ Market, constructed by the Agona East Assembly for the Mankorong community and its environs to be operated on Mondays and Thursdays at Agona Mankorong Nkwanta.

Among the items, the farmers displayed at the inauguration were fresh cassava, plantain, palm nut, palm oil, yam, tomatoes, pepper, garden eggs, gari and fowls.

Mrs Paintsil said the market was constructed as a result of an appeal by the farmers in and around Mankorong to help address the difficulties of carting their farm produce to market centres and prevent post-harvest losses.

She said per consultations with the chiefs in the area, an agreement was reached to construct the centre at Mankorong, situated between Agona Swedru and Bawjiase.

The Assembly needed more IGF to execute developmental projects to improve the lives of the citizenry, Mrs Paintsil said, and urged the people to regularly pay their taxes, particularly the property rates.

She gave the assurance that the Assembly would do all it could to give the market the required publicity to boost patronage.

However, it behoved on the farmers to regularly send their produce to the centre to alert travellers of the operations of the market to do business there.

“The market is not for the farmers alone, but petty traders can sell their items there as a means to keep it functioning every day as Agona Swedru and Bawjiase markets”, the DCE stated.

She noted that the market would soon be paved for the free movement of goods and services and to make the place conducive for business.

Nana Ntisful Aburaedu II, the Chief of Mankorong, on behalf of the people, thanked the Assembly for honouring their appeal to boost farming activities.

He pledged the contribution of the chiefs and people to make the market function effectively.

The DCE was joined by the chiefs to cut a tap to symbolize the inauguration and handing-over of the facility.
