Asiedu Nketia secures landslide victory at NDC elections

Accra, Dec.18, GNA- Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, has won the chairmanship of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with an overwhelming margin.

At the NDC National Delegates Elections held at the Accra Sports Stadium, he polled 5569 to beat his main challenger Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the incumbent, who got 2892 votes.

The other contestants for the NDC Chairmanship race, Mr Samuel Yaw Adusei and Nii Armah Ashitey polled 52 and 38 votes respectively.

Before the results were declared, supporters of Mr Nketia were jubilating at the congress grounds, as some even came out before voting started to declare the impending victory of the most acknowledged stalwart of the Party.

Over the .period, the campaigns by the two frontunners, leading to the contest had generated a lot of interest because of the obvious power the position wielded and the nature of the personalities contesting.

Earlier, Mr Asiedu Nketia who was clad in a war apparel, during his speech asked the party faithful for forgiveness for any misconduct he might have committed during his 17-year tenure as General Secretary.

In the race for the General Secretary position, Mr Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, former MP for Ketu South also won a landslide victory over the other two contenders at the National Delegates conference.

The former Deputy Minister for Finance and former propaganda secretary contested with Dr Peter Boamah Otukunor, who served as Mr Nketia’s Deputy and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, a former Sports Minister and well know Master of Ceremonies at the party’s ceremonies.
