Copenhagen, Dec 15, (dpa/GNA) – Several chimpanzees that had escaped their enclosure in a Swedish zoo, are still on the loose, the Furuvik park near Gävle a good 150 kilometres north of Stockholm announced on Thursday morning.
The four remaining animals were in the chimpanzee house but not locked in their enclosure, the park said. This means that humans are not yet allowed to move freely in the park.
Several of the park’s seven chimpanzees had escaped from their enclosure, and the chimpanzee house on Wednesday. According to the park, three of them had to be shot for safety reasons. Initially it had been reported that four had been killed.
It was still unclear on Thursday how exactly the animals were able to escape, the park wrote in a statement.
