By Samuel AckAssin Gyaase (C/R), Dec.15, GNA – Al-Qimmah Company Limited (AQCL), a borehole drilling company has commissioned and handed over a mechanized borehole to the management and staff of Gyaase Community Senior High School (GCSHS), in the Assin North District of the Central Region.
In addition, the company repaired and rehabilitated the school’s broken down mechanized borehole to ease pressure on the newly constructed one.
The management and staff of GCSHS supplied materials for the construction and the rest was funded by AQCL in response to the acute water challenge facing the school leading to the death of a first year student of the school this year, Saturday, November 19, 2022.
At a ceremony to commission the project, Mallam Abdul Karim Ibrahim, Chairman of AQCL said they were disturbed by the death of a first-year student who lost his life in an attempt to get water to bath.
Hence the decision to help solve the water situation in the school and appealed to the school authorities to handle the project with care and properly maintain them.
Until the commissioning of the borehole, it was common to find some students loitering around searching for water during class hours and this affected punctuality.
Mr. Charles Boadu, the headmaster of GCSHS, commended AQCL for their kind gesture and described the intervention as timely.
He, therefore, called on old students of the school and stakeholders to aid the school when the need arose.
GCSHS is a community school established in 1985 to provide formal education to inhabitants of communities in the catchment area of Assin.
Currently, the school has about 409 students and is preparing to receive the next batch of first years in the year 2023 academic year.
It will be recalled that Joseph Asante an 18-year first-year student got drowned in the ”konkoon” river and was pronounced dead at the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu on Saturday, November 19, 2022.
