No ceasefire planned in Ukraine over holidays

Moscow, Dec 14, (dpa/GNA) – As Russia’s war in Ukraine stretches well into its 10th month, the Kremlin says there are no plans for a ceasefire over the upcoming holidays.

“No, no one has made any proposals, and this issue is not on the agenda,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday, in response to a question from journalists, according to the Interfax news agency.

The holidays in Russia stretch from New Year’s Day to January 8, which is the day after Orthodox Christmas.

After the Russian invasion of the neighbouring country on February 24, all holidays were suspended in Ukraine because of the martial law in force. Before that, as in Russia, the days leading up to Orthodox Christmas were holidays.
