“We have confidence in our goalkeepers” -Otto Addo

By Francis Ofori

Accra, Nov.30, GNA – Otto Addo, Head Coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars has said the Technical Team has absolute confidence in all the three goalkeepers in camp at the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Prior to the competition Ghana suffered a huge blow after two of her goalkeepers, Joojo Wollacot and Richard Ofori were knocked out by injuries, which raised eyebrows as to whether Ati-Zigi, Manaf Nurudeen and Danlad Ibrahim would be capable of manning the post if given the chance.

According to Coach Addo, he was confident the goalkeepers in camp, would do their best in between the sticks, when given the opportunity, adding that all of them have been in good shape since the competition started.

Touching on the performance of Lawrence Ati-Zigi, he said, he had so far proven to be reliable after his excellent display in the last two matches at the competition.

Ati-Zigi had been in post for Ghana for the games against Portugal and South Korea.

Coach Addo commended the goalkeeper for his efforts, that had kept the team in the competition and presented with the opportunity to fight for a place in the knock-out stages of the competition.

“I think it’s been a great tournament up to this point for him, he really did well especially in the last game, he made some great saves,” he added.

The 26 years old who was Ghana’s number one goalkeeper in the 2022 FIFA World Cup had so far conceded five goals in two matches.

In Ghana’s game against South Korea last Monday, the shot stopper made four crucial saves to keep the stars in the game as Ghana recorded its first win in Group H.

Ghana would battle Uruguay in their final Group H clash of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, hoping to pick a win or draw to sail through to the next round of the competition.
