Accra, Nov. 29, GNA – A fire outbreak has gutted the Kantamanto railway market in Accra.
The fire is believed to have started around 0300 hours, However, the cause of the fire is not yet discovered.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), were at the scene trying to quench the blazing fire, nine fire tenders were at scene earlier of which more arrived later to help with evacuation.
The Ghana National Fire Service disclosed that there are no casualties and investigation is still underway.
The Kantamanto railway market is where most citizens trade in second-hand clothing.
Victims of the fire outbreak express worry and cry for government intervention.
Speaking with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Frank Ayivor a shop owner, who is a victim said he was not at shop before it happened, he came to meet the place one fire.
“I have my money and valuable items in my shop, and it is the same shop I get my daily bread from, “now that the shop is burnt I don’t know how to feed my family,” he said.
Mr Joe Mensah who is a victim and shop owner said, most shop owners use machines to work and if the government should provide them with machines they can get back to business.
However, some victims do not have any form of insurance for their shops.
valuable items lost included shops, sewing machines, clothes and money.
