Cape Coast, Nov. 19, GNA – Mrs Justine Apawu, the Acting Central Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has reiterated calls to equip the new generation to be lifelong learners for them to be abreast with the multi-dimensional changes in education.

“The world is consistently changing at a faster rate by globalization, the advent of technology and development of knowledge-based the economy”.

Mrs Apawu made the call at the 146th Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day celebration of the Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.

The celebration was on the theme: “Hen nanaanom botae pa: producing graduates fit for the fourth industrial revolution”.

The new generation, she stressed, needed to become astute in solving problems within their communities towards the socioeconomic development of the country.

The nation needed resilient, determined people with a sense of social responsibility to articulate its growth she noted.

She said the theme was appropriate and adequately resolute to the school’s vision to prepare and motivate students for a rapidly changing world by instilling in them critical thinking skills within a global perspective and the respect for core values.

The Acting Director noted that education was indispensable for the holistic growth of the socio-cultural, technological and political dispensation.

She added that it was the main conduit for imparting knowledge and proper upbringing for the youth to be self-reliant and also to gain competitive advantage on the various global platforms.

Mr Chris Essilfie, Chairman for the celebration in his address, said there should be strong ties between institutions of higher learning and industry to adequately prepare graduates for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He noted that for the children to be prepared to engage in a world alongside smart machines, they needed to be educated differently than in the past.

The celebration saw hundreds of old students in their Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) designed attires with either the school’s badge or crest on them.

Students were seen in their red, black and white outfits with a neat red customized bow-tie to match.

Some highly profile personalities who graced the occasion included Directors of Education, traditional leaders, parents and students of the Wesley Girls Senior High School.

The ceremony saw some current and former students awarded for their distinct and excellent performance at the end-of-term examinations and the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, respectively.

They received certificates, plaques, cash prizes and books sponsored by various school groups.
