Over 4 Mln. Tree Saplings to Be Planted in Bulgaria’s Forest Areas

Sofia, Nov 16 (BTA/GNA) – Over 4 million tree saplings will be planted over 1,634.7 ha in state forest areas for the remainder of 2022, the Agriculture Ministry said in a press release here on Wednesday.

The total planned investment of the six state forestry enterprises amounts to some BGN 26 million. A total of 77 percent of the funds are provided by the state forest enterprises and the rest is provided under EU projects.

Some 356 ha will be reforested in the territories of the Southwestern State Forestry Enterprise with 27,000 wild pear saplings, 11,200 silver lime saplings, and with over 160,000 oaks, beeches, and sycamores, among other species.

Since their establishment in 2011, the state forestry enterprises reforest an average area of some 1550 ha per year.

Reforestation is necessary to provide protection against erosion, landslides, avalanches, fires, industrial pollution, for wood and biomass production, for restoration of natural habitats, among others.
