Copenhagen, Aug 29, (dpa/GNA) – A fire has broken out on a ferry off the coast of Sweden, with some 300 passengers on board, a spokesman for the ferry company Stena Line told Swedish Radio on Monday.
“We have been informed of a limited blaze. Firefighting efforts are ongoing,” the spokesman added.
A spokeswoman for the Swedish sea rescue centre told the TT news agency, that there were no reports of injuries. “We have received information from the ship that the fire should be under control, but we have alerted all available units to be on site, should an evacuation be necessary.”
The ferry, is said to be near the small Swedish island of Gotska Sandön.
The fire is said to have broken out in a refrigerated container on the car deck. There are reports of smoke, but not of open flames.
