Accra, Aug. 25, GNA — The La Nkwantanang Madina-Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has organised a clean-up exercise on Thursday as part of efforts to support the “Operation Clean Your Frontage Campaign.”

It was in fulfillment of the Regional Coordinating Council’s directive to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within the Greater Accra Region to embark on a massive clean-up exercise as part of the “Operation Clean Your Frontage Campaign.”

The exercise, which started at 6:30 am throughout the Municipality, lasted for almost four hours with all shops and markets closed to pave way for a successful clean up exercise.

Participants, including staff of the Assembly, personnel from the Ghana Prison Service, National Disaster and Management Organisation, (NADMO), property owners, traders and residents swept, removed debris and cleared weeds.

Choked gutters around Madina Central Markets, Zongo Junction, Social Welfare, Melcom Road, Baaba Seidu Road and Nkulenu were distilled.

Mrs Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), LaNMMA, said the Assembly was determined to stop the untidy conditions on the streets and markets across the Municipality.

Mr Joseph Quarcoe, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, called on the residents to take full responsibility of cleaning the environment according to the current sanitation byelaws under the Campaign.

“It is no longer the responsibility of the Assembly to collect the refuse. You have to clean and find a way to dispose the refuse yourself. That is per the current sanitation bye-laws. It is no longer the responsibility of the Assembly,” he stressed.
