Driver fined for using private car for commercial purposes, driving without licence

Hohoe (V/R), Jul. 29, GNA – A driver, Selom Dzibede has been sentenced to a fine of GH₵300 by a Hohoe Circuit Court for driving without a licence and using a private vehicle for commercial purposes.

Dzibede pleaded guilty to both counts and was convicted on his own plea and will also serve eight months in prison if he defaults in paying the fine.

The Court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey in sentencing the convict said the Court had taken note that he pleaded for mercy, he was a first-time offender and for the sentencing to serve as a deterrent to others.

Chief Inspector Charles Aziati, Prosecuting, told the Court that on July 25 at about 1130 hours, personnel from the Hohoe Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) were managing traffic at a section of the Hohoe-Accra Road.

He said the convict who was in charge of a Hyundai Accent saloon car with registration number GE 5361-12 from the Accra direction was intercepted.

Chief Inspector Aziati said an inspection conducted on the vehicle revealed that the convict was using the vehicle for commercial purposes, and he was also driving without a licence.
