Sofia, July 27, (BTA/GNA) – Bulgarian nationals made 680,600 trips abroad in June 2022, which was 48.4% more than in June 2021, the National Statistical Institute reported on Wednesday.
The largest share of trips were holiday trips and excursions, at 41.2%. Another 20.5% were business trips, and 38.3% were made for other purposes (visiting friends or relatives, studying, going to cultural or sport events).
In June 2022, the largest number of cross-border trips by Bulgarian nationals were made to Greece (176,700), followed by Turkey (160,700), Serbia (60,000), Romania (54,000), Germany (33,700), Italy (28,800), North Macedonia (23,100), Spain (22,500), Austria (19,700) and the United Kingdom (14,100).
Trips by foreigners to Bulgaria in June 2022 totalled 1,131,900, or 52.4% more than in June 2021. All types of trips (by purpose) increased. Transit trips (394,600) accounted for 34.9% of foreigners’ trips to Bulgaria.
Some 52.3% of foreigners’ trips to Bulgaria in June 2022 were made by nationals of EU member states (591,800). Trips from all member states increased.
Trips by nationals of non-EU countries in Europe numbered 413,900 in the month under review, or 36.6% of all foreigners’ visits to Bulgaria. In this category, the largest number of trips were made by nationals of Turkey, at 163,900, which was 39.6% of the total.
Holiday trips and excursions accounted for 42.4% of all trips, business trips were 11.2%, and trips for other purposes 46.4%.
The largest flow came from Romania (206,100), followed by Turkey (163,900), Germany (94,900), Ukraine (92,800), Greece (78,900), Poland (64,100), Serbia (58,500), the United Kingdom (41,400), North Macedonia (32,300) and Czechia (27,600).
