Bolgatanga, July 25, GNA-Leadership of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), has presented some sums of money to four members of the Association with various health conditions across three Districts in the Upper East Region.
The Regional branch of the Association received GH¢50,000.00 cheque from its national level, and disbursed, depending on the health conditions of members in the Bawku West and Garu Districts, and the Bolgatanga Municipality.
In the Bawku West District, Mr Edward Aram, a nurse at the Zebilla Hospital who suffered gunshot wounds from a robbery attack, received GH¢10,000.00, while Mr Osman Samari of the Yelewoko Health Centre in the same District, who was involved in Road Traffic Accident (RTA), also received GH¢5,000.00.
An Assistant Treasurer of the GRNMA in the Garu District, Mr Joshua Kabre, received a cheque forr GH¢20,000.00 to support him undergo surgery at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
At the Sokabisi Health Centre in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Mr Anoyas Musah Iddrisu, the Municipal Chairman, presented a cheque of GH¢15,000.00 to a member (name withheld) to undergo Specialists treatment at the Okomfo-Anokye and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals.
The beneficiary members in the districts after receiving their cheques, expressed gratitude to Mrs Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the President of the GRNMA and the entire leadership of the Association for the support.
The Regional Chairman of the Association, Mr Thomas Lambon, who supervised the disbursement of the cheques on behalf of Mrs Ofori-Ampofo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that an amount of GH¢50.00 was deducted monthly from members’ salaries into a Health Fund of the Association.
That, he said was used to support sick members in good standing, adding that sick members who applied for support, were entitled to a minimum of GH¢5,000.00 and maximum amount of GH¢50,000.00 depending on their health conditions.
On how to access the funds, the Regional Chairman said the hitherto manual mode of application for support from the Health Fund had been changed to electronic mode to fast-track the application process.
He said sick members who suffered various health conditions that were not covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), were required to apply for support from the fund using the GRNMA Infor-net application.
Mr Lambon noted that there was thorough scrutiny of all application forms from members in good standing, including visits to purported sick members by leadership from the district levels to ascertain the veracity of applications and report to leadership in the Region.
He said if the applicant met the requirements, and was indeed sick, the information was forwarded to the national level for further scrutiny, and release of funds to the applicant through the regional leadership.
“Some members have tried to beat the system, so we ensure strict checks and balances to be sure applicants actually deserve the funds requested,” the Regional Chairman said.
Mr Lambon encouraged all sick members of the Association in good standing to apply for support, and on behalf of the entire leadership of the Association, wished all sick members speedy recovery.
