The accused, Daniel Addo, aged 20, pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm. The case resumes on Monday, July 25.

Presenting the facts of the case, Police Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court presided over by Mr Eric Baah Boateng that Madam Alice Nyarko, the complainant, lived in the same vicinity as the accused at Asafoakye.

On June 17, 2020, at about 0900 hours, the complainant’s daughter Millicent Nyarko and her cousin Emma visited a barber salon to have a haircut.

He said on arrival at the saloon, one Bukari then referred to Emma as Millicent’s fiancee, a statement she did not take kindly and, therefore, informed the complainant as soon as they got home.

The complainant then went to the said saloon to explain to Bukari that her daughter and Emma were not in love, but the accused who was present started insulting the complainant and also called her a foolish woman.

Detective Inspector Agyare said the complainant did not utter a word and left but the accused person’s mother Aunt Ama later visited Madam Nyarko in the house to enquire what transpired between her and the son.

The prosecutor said while the complainant was explaining the incident to Addo’s mother, Addo came and hit her head with a stick, and she was rushed to Yiwabre clinic for treatment.

The complainant after recovering made a report to the police but the accused fled the town after the incident.

Detective Inspector Agyare said Addo resurfaced about a month ago and he was arrested, cautioned and charged with the offence.
