77-year-old farmer in court for deceit of public officer

Enchi (WN/R), July 18, GNA-A 77-year-old farmer who hails from Desueano in the Aowin Municipality has appeared before the Enchi District Magistrate court for the deceit of public officer.

Stephen Tandoh, the accused person, pleaded not guilty to the charge and the court presided over by Mr Eric Baah Boateng, granted him GH¢5,000.00 bail with one surety to re-appear on Thursday, July 21, 2021.

The court further ordered that the surety must be a civil servant whose net salary should be GH¢3,000.00.

Detective Police Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare, prosecuting, told the court that the accused person who resides in Enchi was an uncle to the Desueano chief, an immigration officer stationed in the Ashanti Region.

He said because of the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the Aowin Traditional Area, the police had resolved to maintain the peace currently enjoyed by the residents and to discourage anyone from giving false information to the public which could create tension.

On July 2, 2022, at about 1800 hours, the accused person reported to the police that, Nana Afue Kwayaa, Obaahemaa of Densuano, Robert Kwaw Andoh, Patricia Amoah and Emmanuel Cobbinah who are opponents to the chief of Desueano were in a meeting at Sewum planning to install a parallel chief of Desueano on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at 4:00 am.

The prosecution said same day at about 0700 hours, the Divisional Police Commander, Crime officer and the District Police Commander of Enchi met both parties but the accused person was not able to substantiate his allegation and alleged he was informed by one Ayeba Meisu.

Detective Inspector Agyare said Meisu also claimed he was informed by a certain woman but could not mention her name.

He said when the police probed further to ascertain the truth, the accused person was not able to produce the so-called person who was in the meeting and witnessed the above-named people planning to execute that task.

The prosecution said after interrogation it became known that Tandoh had deceived the police and was therefore arrested.
