Bansko, South-Western Bulgaria, July 18, (BTA/GNA) – Nigeria’s Mavlon FC has chosen the mountain town of Bansko in southwestern Bulgaria as a venue of its pre-season training. The club’s Sporting Director, Kanayo Martins, gave a special interview to BTA in which he spoke about football in Nigeria and Bulgaria, and young football talents.

Martins said the team had a warm welcome in Bulgaria. The players have excellent conditions for training and many friendlies to test out their skills and show their talents. Martins said Bulgarian football star Hristo Stoichkov was his childhood’s hero. The guest also noted that he vividly remembers the 1994 FIFA World Cup in the United States where Nigeria defeated Bulgaria at the start but after that the Bulgarian national team went on to place fourth, a still unsurpassed record-high standing for the Bulgarian squad.

Dwelling on the current training camp, Martins said that his team has footballers who can successfully play in Bulgaria’s first division as they have a winning mentality. He said his players are being scouted by football managers in Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium.

The guest said he is very pleased with the conditions for training in Bulgaria. The players have been provided with everything so they can focus properly on their training and their game. Martins also said that he will recommend Bulgaria to other football teams as a nice place to organize training camps. He said he has no doubt that other teams will follow Mavlon’s pioneering example to train in Bulgaria. “This will be a good promotion of Bulgaria,” he said.

Martins said that he has been to many places in this country, many towns and resort locations, and he is impressed with the good sporting facilities, and the infrastructure for the development of young football talents. The Nigerian Sporting Director said he has a good eye and he has seen that Bulgaria has skilled young players, which he described as kids who love the game. In his words, Bulgaria has a good future, football-wise.
