Sofia, July 11, (BTA/GNA) – Bulgarian eighth-grader Maxim Stoychev from Ruse (on the Danube) won the prestigious Kaya Tuncer “Right Stuff” award of the Space Camp Turkey training centre for students. The award is presented to students who demonstrate the characteristics of future space explorers, organizers said.
For his participation in the programme, Stoychev also received a full scholarship to attend the training camp. The scholarship is awarded by the Centre for Creative Learning, which is a coordinator of the Space Camp Turkey programme for Bulgaria. Stoychev was awarded the maximum score of 100 points out of 100 in the competition for his essay on “The James Webb Space Telescope: a New Era in Deep Space Exploration”.
Space Camp Turkey is located in Izmir, Turkey, and is focused on teaching space science and exploration. It is one of two space training centres in the world modeled after NASA, and is the only one operating in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
The aim of the Space and Science Centre is to motivate young people from around the world to pursue careers in science and technology, and astronautics most of all.
