Ankaful (C/R), June 28, GNA – More than 100 students at the Ankaful Mental Basic School have been empowered with knowledge and skills on Information Communication Technology (ICT) by MTN Ghana under its 21 days Yello Care project.
The project is on the theme: “Empowering Communities to Drive Economic Recovery”
The project, which was suspended in 2020 due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVUD-19) pandemic, resumed last Friday, June 24.
MTN Y’ello care is an annual employee volunteering project held in all MTN operations zone, since its inception in 2007 and had impacted millions of people and communities across the continent.
The students were trained in basic Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) skills and knowledge.
Mrs Regina Arkafie, the Human Resource (HR) Partner, Western and Central Regions at MTN Ghana, presented a laptop on behalf of the staff to the School on Tuesday and encouraged the pupils and students to take the study of ICT seriously to help them compete internationally.
The project she mentioned was aimed to inspire MTN users to heed the call to help local communities to upgrade their skills to drive economic activity and participation through focusing on digital skills training and digital job creation.
This was linked to MTN’s strategic priority to build digital skills for digital jobs aligned to the company’s Ambition 2025 Strategy.
Mrs Arkafie said MTN was committed to adding economic value to communities by contributing to society through its programmes focused on digital education, digital skills, and digital skills training.
The company believed that reducing the digital skills gap will help address issues of digital and social inequalities, while at the same time ensuring the sustainability of the businesses, she added.
The HR Partner stated that the project beneficiaries were entrepreneurs and students.
Ms Cecilia Aboagye, the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipal Director of Education, receiving the laptop expressed gratitude to MTN for the kind gesture.
She pledged that the laptop would be used for the intended purpose to improve ICT literacy in the school’s quest to move into the digitalisation global trend.
The Director appealed for more support from stakeholders, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and other benevolent individuals in the country.
Emmanuel Ababio, a class six pupil in an interview with the GNA, thanked MTN Ghana for the training.
“I can now operate a laptop on my own without the help of any teacher, thanks to MTN Ghana” he stated.
