Accra, June 27, GNA-Strengthening Families Conference (SFC), a global event originating from Ghana, has ended in Accra with a call on all and sundry to make the family a safe place for all.
The two-day SFC 2022 which was organized and hosted by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with contribution from various organizations, including the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ghana Police Service, National Commission on Culture, Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ga Stool and Delfi Ventures, was attended by hundreds of adherents of all faiths within the West Africa Sub region.
It was on the theme, “Strengthening the rising generation” and aimed at promoting measures to maintain and strengthen the family as the fundamental unit and foundation of a society built on unity, stronger morals and values.
According to the organizers, families play a key role in creating and sustaining peaceful and inclusive societies indispensable for sustainable and inclusive development of humanity.
The SFC intends to create an ongoing cooperative, catalytic environment where the tools of action and real change are both sought for and embedded at every level.
In a keynote address, Reverend Professor Charles Anum Adams, President, Ghana Institute of Engineering, asked parents and guardians to offer purpose and hope to the younger generation in the midst of real and perceived immorality and corruption.
Teach the children to learn and appreciate sacrifice, hard work, respect for all manner of people but be strong willed and have strong convictions.
He asked society and parents to develop the God given talents of children for them to love the career paths they take.
The Professor called for the promotion of Technical, Vocation Education, where many talents could be nurtured.
“We don’t want the children to grow and become a threat to their own society and humanity. Let’s make the family the place where they can be inspired and nurtured. Our role as parents is to help them define a good future as we instil in them values that will always guide them, “he said.
Mr James Owusu- Ansah, Director of Communication Africa West Area, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said the conference offered the platform for the sharing of ideas and experiences on how to strengthen families.
” When we come together to work, we can achieve a lot. That is what this enterprise is about, ” he said.
The next edition of the Conference dubbed, “Strengthening Marriages,” will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, next year.
