Dormaa East Hospital records zero maternal mortality in 2021

Wamfie (B/R), June 27, GNA – The Dormaa East District Hospital in the Bono Region had zero maternal mortality in 2021 and has consistently won the annual regional health performance league table.

Madam Esther Akua Konadu Prempeh, the District Director of Health Services announced the data, at Wamfie, the District capital in the Bono Region when she was speaking at a durbar for the commencement of one-day working visit by Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General (D-G) of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and the members of the GHS Council to the District.

Besides interaction with the staff of the District Health Directorate, the visit enabled the D-G and members of the council to identify the prevailing challenges and how best to address them to help improve health care services in the area.

The visit was also an opportunity for the council to ascertain the performance of the Hospital in relation to its challenges associated with equipment and logistics necessary to strengthen the provision of health services to the people.

It was further to motivate staff of health facilities such as health centres and Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compounds, particularly in the deprived communities for them to develop a more positive attitude towards work to deliver dedicated services for the satisfaction of patients and residents of District in general.

Mad. Prempeh recalled the Hospital started in 1977 as a Health Centre, upgraded to a polyclinic in 2014 and subsequently to District Hospital in June 2016 as a result of tremendous and continuous performances in health care services delivery.

She said the Health Directorate initiated a common system of inter-ward communication channel for quick information and prompt responses to effectively handle and save situations at the Hospital.

Mad. Prempeh appealed to government through the D-G and the Council for the provision of staff accommodations and motor bikes to support staff, especially in the deprived and unreached communities to boost health care delivery services in District.

As part of the visit, Dr. Kuma-Aboagye inspected an emergency infrastructure under construction with funding by natives of Wamfie living abroad.

He commended the staff of the Health Directorate and the Hospital and encouraged them to keep the good work being done to contribute in enhancing health care provision services of the country.
