Accra, June 27, GNA – Balloting for positions of aspirants for the national executive elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is underway behind closed doors.
Party officials said “provisions” were not made for media coverage of the event, saying “there is no space.”
Mr Evans Nimako, the Director of Elections and Research, NPP, told the Ghana News Agency that the media would be briefed after the exercise.
The Electoral Commission is supervising the balloting.
Journalists who arrived at the Party’s headoffice Monday morning to cover the exercise were prevented from entering the office.
The NPP will hold its national executive elections at the Accra Sports Stadium on July 17, 2022.
Representatives of some aspirants got to the Party head office before 1000 hours ahead of the exercise.
Some aspirants are expected to take part in the balloting themselves.
A total of 49 aspirants are contesting different positions – National Chairmanship, Vice Chairmanship, General Secretary, Organiser, Youth Organiser, Treasurer, Women’sOrganiser and the NASARA Coordinator.
