ECOWAS opens Administration and Finance Committee meeting in Ghana

Accra, June 17, GNA – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has commenced its 31st Ordinary Session of the Administration and Finance Committee (AFC) in Accra, the capital of Ghana.

Ghana, which is host to the Chairmanship of ECOWAS will accommodate members of the Committee from June 15 to June 21, as they strategise on ways to ensure effective and realistic achievement of the collective goals of member states in contributing to the socio-economic development of its citizens.

Among others, the Committee would consider a memorandum on the financial situation of the Community, and the status of the tasks assigned to the Community institutions by 30th meeting of the Administration and Finance Committee.

They will also discuss staff skills audit and manual of procedures for human resources, and recruitment process of ECOWAS, as well as a consideration of the Community Levy report.

Mr Mohammed Nurudeen Ismaila, Chairman, Administration and Finance Committee (AFC), opened the ceremony on behalf of the Vice President, who had to delay for a day due to the death of one of the Directors of the Commissioner of Finance.

He said that the Committee would assess and make appropriate recommendations on issues pertaining to personnel management of the ECOWAS institutions and submit same to the Council for approval this month.

The Chairman called for the cooperation and indulgence of all members to accomplish the tasks of the Committee and contribute effectively to all discussions within the period of the meeting.

Mr Vafolay Tulay, Commissioner, General Administration and Conference, also said that experts from member states would deliberate on issues that would support effective and efficient administration and finance of ECOWAS.
