Kumasi, June 15, GNA – Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, a presidential aspirant of the Ghana Journalists’ Association (GJA), has rallied the members to vote massively for him in the Association’s elections scheduled for June 24, this year.
“I have what it takes to transform the Association for the better,” he noted, saying Ghanaian journalists deserved better conditions of service.
He promises to institute an insurance scheme to take care of the welfare of members.
Additionally, journalists will be given the opportunity to sharpen their skills, build capacity in areas relevant to journalism, and also facilitate more exchange programmes to expose local media personnel to international practices.
Mr. Dwumfour, who was interacting with a cross-section of journalists in Kumasi, to outline his vision and mission for contesting the elections, said under his tenure, media personnel would be protected from all forms of intimidation and attacks.
“Nobody can be an impediment to the progress and development of the media. They cannot threaten our safety and security,” the GJA presidential aspirant assured.
According to him, the media thrived in a free and fair environment devoid of restrictions.
“Under my leadership, media freedom will be upheld at all levels for the society’s sustainable growth,” Mr. Dwumfour observed.
He argued that the media played a critical role in the nation’s development, therefore, his decision to contest the presidential slot of the GJA elections was premised on his conviction to improve on the gains made in the Ghanaian media landscape.
