Volta GNFS commanders receive training to improve performance

Ho, June 7, GNA- Senior officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Volta region are receiving training in Ho to improve their performance.

The six-day training, an initiative of the Regional Command of the Service, is dubbed: “Building personnel capacity for quality service delivery.”

It will cover areas, including discipline, administration and manpower planning, auditing and accountability and is expected to broaden the knowledge of the beneficiaries and sharpen their skills.

Mr Joy Ayim Ameyibor, the Regional Commander of the Service, told Ghana News Agency the training was to build the capacity of the personnel and prepare them to deliver quality service to the public.

He said firefighting was a challenging task and personnel needed training and retraining to update their skills to enhance effectiveness.

The Commander said effective leadership was key to effective implementation of policies and achieving better results, adding that the training would enable the officers to deal with gaps for continuous improvements.

Mr Ameyibor, who is also Assistant Chief Fire Officer One (ACFO 1), said the Command was leaving no stone unturned to ensure the safety of life and property in the Region and asked the public for maximum support.

Mr Julius Kuunor, the Chief Fire Officer, in a speech read on his behalf at the opening of the training, commended the Regional Command for the initiative.

He said the world was fast developing technologically and the Service needed to embrace the new trend, including regular training and capacity building of the personnel.

The Chief Fire Officer charged the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Commanders to intensify public sensitisation on fire prevention to forestall fire outbreaks.

“Our efforts in combating fires will come to nothing if the population are ignorant about our operations and about our ways of preventing fires,” he stated.
