Asokore Mampong Education Directorate debunks news of teacher trainee impregnating female students

Accra, June 07, GNA – The Asokore Mampong Municipal Directorate of Education in the Ashanti Region has debunked reports that a teacher trainee undergoing teaching practice has impregnated 24 schoolgirls, four female teachers and a headmistress of a school in the Municipality.

The Education Directorate in a press release said the publication was false, stressing that there was no trainee intern posted in the area.

“The Education Directorate since its inception has not engaged Colleges of Education to post teacher trainee in any of our schools,” the Directorate stated.

The release said the Directorate had no issue of shortage of teachers in the area to necessitate the posting of teacher trainees.

The release added that there were eight Municipal Assembly (M/A) schools in the area out of, which majority was headed by males except Aboabo M/A School, which was headed by a female who was nearing retirement.

It said the Directorate had records to prove reduction of teenage pregnancy in schools in the area.

“The Girls’ Education Unit has over the past three years recorded a lower number of pregnant schoolgirls in schools in our Municipality,” the release added.

Social media reports on Friday June 3, suggested that a teacher trainee on teaching practice at Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region had impregnated 24 students, a headmistress and 4 female teachers.
