Hohoe (V/R), Jun. 3, GNA – The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in the Hohoe Municipality has held an open day to familiarise the public with the operations of the Service.
The open day is part of the Service’s National Safety Week themed: “Safer environment, key to investment.”
DOIII King Eyram Glala, Hohoe Municipal Fire Officer, said the open day was to enable the public to have a feel of what the Service does.
He said it is also an opportunity to interact with personnel of the Service and witness practical demonstrations of their duties.
DOIII Glala said since the Service shared office with the National Ambulance Service, they also joined the Service to educate the public on their operations too.
Students from the St. Teresa’s College of Education, Hohoe E.P Senior High School, Adabraka English-Arabic and St. Joseph Junior High Schools participated in the event.
Senior Advance EMT Innocent Adzraku of the National Ambulance Service said they were taking the participants through first aid and immediate intervention given to the injured or the sick.
Some of the tutors and students expressed their impressions and what they learnt as part of the day.
Mr Mike Edem Ezu, a teacher at St Joseph JHS, said it was important that the students had a feel and practical knowledge of what they learnt in class.
He said it would also ignite the passion in some of the students who would join the profession.
Mr Ezu thanked the Service for such a forum and hoped it would continue.
