Tamale, May 29, GNA – Dr Issah Sugri, Senior Research Scientist at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research – Savanna Agricultural Research Institute (CSIR-SARI) has advised farmers to apply manure or fertiliser on their farmlands before planting their crops.
He advised them to spread the manure or fertilizer on the surface of the land, adding they should also mix the manure or fertilizer with the surface layers of soil.
Dr Sugri who gave the advice in an interview with Ghana News Agency in Tamale advised farmers to monitor the weather conditions and forecasts at the time they want to apply manure or fertilizer to prevent it from being washed away.
Dr Sugri said it was vital for farmers to test the soil, which must not be more than five years at the time of application of the fertilizer or manure to cultivate the land.
