Volta Region NPP Chairman maintained

Ho, May 29, GNA – Mr. Makafui Woanya, the incumbent Volta Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party at the weekend polled 188 against 100 votes for Mr Joseph Hormenya, then Regional Secretary of the party, to retain his position.

Rev. Johnson Avulete, a former Deputy Regional Minister, who also contested for the postion got three votes.

Pope Yevoo, then Regional Communications Officer, was elected Secretary from among four contestants, while delegates maintained Korsi Bodja, the Regional Organizer.

Rejoice Afi Agyagbo, the Women Organizer went head-on with Hannah Ashade, and lost by a 12-vote margin. 

Delegates also elected a new Youth Organizer Destiny Prince Tettey, as well as a new First Vice Chairman Ken Ayim.

The elections were held as a restricted event, characterized by heavy security blockades that sealed off the JM Afeti Auditorium of the Ho Technical University, where it was held.

Non-delegates and supporters took over the principal streets of the university, parading banners of their favorite aspirants.

Mr. Edmund Kudjoh Attah, Chairman of the Regional Elections Committee, swore-in the elected executives.

He believed the reaffirmation of the bulk of the leaders showed a united entity, which he hoped would be sustained towards the greater aims of maintaining political power.

Mr. Woanyah, in a victory speech, traced his re-election to the appreciation of his efforts, and promised to continue working with all, which he said had helped consolidate the gains.

The newly elected Regional Secretary also said research and communication had spurred the victory, and was sure it would be reflected in the coming elections.
