Copenhagen, May 16, (dpa/GNA) – A majority of parties came out in favour of Sweden’s application for NATO membership, during a debate in parliament on Monday.
Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson’s ruling Social Democrats, have already said they intend to apply to join the Western military alliance.
In remarks to the lawmakers earlier in the day, Andersson said, “There is much in Sweden that is worth defending, and Sweden is best defended in NATO.”
The main opposition Moderate Party also supports joining.
