Several arrested during pro-Palestinian rally in Berlin

Berlin, Apr. 24, (dpa/GNA) - Several people were arrested during a pro-Palestinian rally in Berlin at the weekend, with police recording several offences.

According to observers, some people yelled anti-Semitic insults during the demonstration in Berlin’s Kreuzberg and Neukölln neighbourhoods late on Saturday. So far, the police have not specified the nature of the offences recorded.

In a video posted by the Democ organization on Twitter, several people are seen yelling “You dirty Jew” as a journalist is reportedly being escorted from the rally.

In another video posted by the organization, which monitors movements with anti-democratic tendencies, police are seen telling a journalist to stay behind the train of protesters, following a heated argument with one of the rally’s organizers.

According to the police, officers had to shield members of the press during the demonstration.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser in a tweet on Sunday said that there was no room for anti-Semitism in the country.

“We must never get used to anti-Semitic insults – no matter from where and from whom they come,” she wrote.

The rally was the second pro-Palestinian demonstration in Neukölln this weekend. During the protest on Fridays, demonstrators threw stones and police officers were injured, according to the police.
