Poland’s border police count nearly 2.9m refugees from Ukraine

Warsaw, April 21, (dpa/GNA) – Almost 2.9 million people have fled from Ukraine to Poland since the beginning of the Russian invasion, the Polish border police tweeted on Thursday.

Wednesday saw around 22,300 refugees cross the border into Poland, 11% fewer than the day before.

However, the same number of people, 22,300, also made the crossing in the opposite direction on Wednesday, returning to Ukraine from Poland. Since the begging of the war on February 24, 779,000 people have travelled into Ukraine from Poland.

According to the authorities, the majority of these are Ukrainian citizens, mostly travelling to areas the Ukrainian army has regained control of.
