Coups are destructive and retrogressive- Prince Mba

Accra, March 14, GNA – Mr Prince Bagnaba Mba President of Forum for Equity a human rights Non-governmental organization has called on Ghanaians to denounce any form military take over in the continent.

He said such coups were not only destructive, but also retrogressive as they impeded growth and orderly progress.

Mr Mba who was speaking in an exclusive interview with the Ghana News Agency on how some individuals were making statements concerning coup d’etat in the country said coups were never alternatives to democracy

“Gone are the days of military adventurous usurping of constitutional power. For the three decades, we have a very vibrant media ensuring that the country’s sacred powers are not wrestled and robbed by persons in uniform. They normally play on popular sentiments to enable their total capture to power for selfish looting and aggrandisement.”

Mr Mba recalled the massive and popular resistance and revolt against the PNDC in December 1981 in Bolgatanga led by Chairman Paul Afoko ,Madam Bolico and many others and asked how can the security take over the administration of an establishment”?

He said Ghanaians had tasted and tested democracy and the obvious choice was free multi party democratic governance.

“Until total justice is brought to book ,beneficiaries of such criminal acts will always continue to preach vices and violence.

“Ghanaians have always shown courage that development depends on freedom of our collective will.”
