Techiman (BE/R) March 2, GNA- The Society of the Physically Disabled in Techiman in the Bono East Region has appealed to the government, charitable organisations and philanthropists to support it with logistics to improve the productivity of its business entity being operated by members.
The Society has trained members in trades such as dressmaking, footwear manufacturing and repairs as well as home appliances, electrical gadgets and other machines and equipment repairs.
The society has been using that as a means of generating income to support members to earn a living but the lack of logistics for some years now impeded the Society generally and individual members’ progress.
Mr Daniel Boakye, the Vice President of the Society, who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Techiman, said the state of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in most parts of the region was miserable.
He said the Society’s had a rehabilitation and training centre for PWDs but lack of tools and equipment, as well as logistics to provide, particularly disabled youth with skills, was hampering the Society’s effort
Mr Boakye said apart from earning income for living through the skills acquisition, it was also a means of contributing to the growth of the national economy by the beneficiaries.
“The Centre is currently at a state of collapsing because there are no resources to revamp it. I am a shoemaker, my sister here is a dressmaker but we do not have the requisite tools for production, yet we have the skills to train others and produce more products for income generation,” he said.
