Gwollu (UWR), March 02, GNA – Kuoro Kuri-Buktie Limann IV, the paramount chief of the Gwollu Traditional Area, has appealed to the government to consider tarring the stretch of road from Wa to Gwollu and Tumu as an honour to former president Dr Hiller Limann.
He said Gwollu was one of the major tourists’ attractions in the Upper West Region due to the tomb of Dr Hilla Limann, the Gwollu Slavery Defence Wall and forests reserves, among others, but due to the poor road network, the town was not attracting tourists.
Kouro Limann IV told the GNA in Gwolu on Tuesday that the history of Ghana would be incomplete without the contribution of Dr Hilla Limann who was the democratically elected president in the third Republic, whose tenure was truncated by a coup d’etat in 1981.
“As we are celebrating Ghana’s Independence Day this month, we must make the conscious effort to remain committed to developing and making the tombs of our late presidents attractive to tourists and make all roads leading to their towns motorable,” he said
He expressed concern about the neglect of a library project in honour of Dr Limann started by former president John Agyekum Kufuor and appealed to the government and NGOs to assist in completing the project.
“Other major concern is the road from Wa-Gwollu, Gwollu-Tumu linking the Upper East Region. The Gwollu town roads are nothing to write home about,” he said.
Kuoro Limann IV, who was a Council of State member in the erstwhile President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime, appealed for the building of a mausoleum in Gwollu as means of protecting and preserving Dr Limann’s tomb.
He commended the American Embassy in Ghana under Ambassador Pamela Bridgewater for roofing the remains of the Anti-Slavery Defence Wall and appealed to other development partners in the country to help develop the place.
“I must also mention that all presidents in the fourth Republic had visited Dr Limann’s tomb to pay their last respect except Late Jerry John Rawlings,” he said.
He used the occasion to wish Ghanaians well as the country celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary and asked them to remain patriotic, remain united and engage in acts of development.
