GHS begins distribution of mosquito nets in Ashanti Region

Kumasi, Feb. 28, GNA – The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) have begun the distribution of long-lasting insecticide treated nets in the Ashanti Region.

The exercise which followed the registration of households early this month, sought to replace nets distributed three years ago to strengthen the protection of beneficiaries from malaria.

A total of 6,639 Distribution Point Assistants (DPAs) have been deployed to 2,213 distribution points to oversee the exercise.

Mr Felix Frimpong, the Regional Health Promotion Officer who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA), implored the public to visit the designated distribution points to collect their nets, using the unique codes generated for them during the registration.

“If you have forgotten your unique code or you can’t go to the distribution point personally for any reason, you can give your Ghana card to any person you trust to collect the net on behalf of the household,” he explained.

He said five districts including Asante-Akim South, Adansi South, Adansi North, Ahafo Ano South and Amansie South would not be part of the exercise and that they would have their turn later.

He said all COVID-19 safety protocols would be observed at the distribution points and urged the beneficiaries to wear their face masks when going to the centres.

Mr Frimpong also advised them to use the nets for the purpose for which they were distributed to protect them from malaria.
