NYA engages youth in Tamale to advance their growth

Tamale, Feb 21, GNA – The Northern Regional Directorate of the National Youth Authority (NYA) has engaged some registered youth groups in Tamale to discuss issues on enhancing their growth and development.

The meeting was also to help provide them with mentorship in career choices and emerging opportunities, which they could take advantage of.

Mr Mumuni Sulemana, the Northern Regional Director of NYA, who led the discussions, said it was also to present the Authority’s policies and programmes to the youth to ensure they were not left out in the country’s development agenda.

He said the NYA had instituted an award scheme, dubbed: “Youth and Mentors Awards” to encourage hard work, commitment and excellence in youth activities.

Mr Sulemana announced the introduction of the G-Gap initiative aimed at closing the generational gap between the youth and the elderly by providing the needed platforms to sharing experiences and expertise.

“We shall be reconstituting the Regional Youth Parliament whilst engaging in a series of advocacy and capacity building programmes to enhance the interest of the youth in national development,” he said.

Mrs Blessilla Na-Afoe Kandoh, Youth Advocacy and Campaigns Coordinator of Norsaac, a non-governmental organisation, called for youth empowerment to strengthen their commitment to service to be able to give back to society.

Miss Khadijah Abdul-Sammed, a youth empowerment advocate, commended the NYA for the initiative as it would inspire the spirit of patriotism in the youth.
