Hohoe E.P Basic School gets new classroom block from PoP

Hohoe (V/R), Feb. 18, GNA – Pencils of Promise (PoP), a Non-Governmental Organisation with focus on education has inaugurated a four-unit Kindergarten classroom block with ancillary facilities for the Hohoe E.P Basic School to enhance quality teaching and learning.

Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director, PoP, said it was the belief of the Organisation that every child should have access to quality education.

He said they partnered with local government authorities and communities to positively impact learners, teachers and parents in dire need communities in Ghana.

Mr Gobah said a total of 588 schools had been built globally since the inception of the Organisation and serving 230,000 learners directly adding that 198 school projects had been initiated and completed in the Oti, Volta and Eastern regions.

He said the PoP had also provided in-service training for over a thousand School Management Officers, Circuit Supervisors, headteachers and teachers in over 105 schools.

Mr Gobah noted that a total of 7,000 electronic readers including 750 electronic books had been deployed in over 78 schools to improve literacy.

He said the partnership with schools and other stakeholders to provide comprehensive Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programming to 70 schools was apt since learners deserved a healthy and safe environment to study.

Mr Gobah commended all stakeholders and volunteers who worked hard towards the success of the inaugurated structure and called on parents to invest in the education of their wards.

Mr Stephen Kobla Afedo, Headmaster of the School commended the Organisation for the project and added that the Hohoe E.P Cluster of Schools had on numerous times benefitted from the electronic reader and teacher support programmes.

He appealed to the Organisation for support for work to be done on one of the classroom blocks which got flooded when it rained as a result of the topography of the school premises.

Madam Janet Valerie Datsa, Hohoe Municipal Director of Education, said the educational support for schools in the Municipality by PoP was yielding fruitful results.

She said there had been an increase in enrolment in all the supported schools as well as improvement in students’ academic performances and in co-curricular activities.

Madam Datsa entreated the Management and students at the school to exhibit good maintenance culture of the facility.

Mr Daniel Noble Awume, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the Assembly was committed to roll out good educational structures.

He called for collaboration between traditional authorities and community members to ensure that the efforts of the government’s representatives were achieved.

The occasion also saw the launch of the 2022 Academic Year Programme by Pencils of Promise which intended to be expanded to 30 new schools for teacher support and 20 for WASH programme.
