Bono Minister tasks MDCEs to intensify public education on E-levy

Dormaa-Ahenkro, Feb. 16, GNA – Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, has tasked the Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to intensify public education on the electronic transaction Levy (e-levy) in their respective localities.
She said it would cause the nation dearly if Ghanaians rejected the e-levy and directed the District/Municipal Chief Executives to serve as ambassadors and sensitise the populace about the concept of the levy.

“If Ghanaians understand the idea of the e-levy and its benefits, there is no way they would reject it”, the Regional Minister said when she interacted with staff of the Dormaa Municipal Assembly at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Bono Region.

“We need money to fix the system and if we all accept the e-levy and honour other tax obligations, we can get enough money to push development”, she said.

Mad Owusu-Banahene said the government needed adequate funds to support the implementation of the Free Senior High School and other social intervention programmes as well as push infrastructural development.

She stated it was the mandate of the Assemblies to ensure that the people would understand government policies and programmes and their implementation at the local levels for maximum benefits.

Mr. Drissa Ouattara, the Dormaa Central Municipal Chief Executive commended the Assembly staff for their hard work, and expressed the hope the Assembly members would support the implementation  of government social intervention programmes to yield desirable benefits.

He advised the people to pay their property rates and other taxes for the Assembly to generate adequate resources required for development.
