SIM Card subscribers call for extension of March 31 re-registration deadline

Kadjebi (O/R), Feb. 15, GNA – Some SIM Card registrants at Kadjebi Registration Centre have called for the extension of the re-registration exercise due to the slow pace of the activity.

This, they said, would facilitate all subscribers to register their SIM cards before the March 31, 2022 deadline due to the distance to registration centres and the unstable network connectivity.

The registration officials disclosed this in an interview when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some registration centres at Kadjebi to observe the exercise.

Madam Edith Gbeve, a Subscriber from Pillar 83, a farming community in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, said she had to visit a registration centre thrice before getting her SIM Card registered.

She said the exercise was frustrating and time consuming and called for an extension of the deadline in order not to leave out more subscribers.

Mr. Divine Kpogli, another Subscriber from Ahamansu community, also called for the extension of the exercise due to limited registration centres in the district, which was likely to affect some subscribers in re-registering their SIM cards before the deadline.

He called on Telcos to open SIM Card re-registration centres in electoral area capitals instead of District Capitals for subscribers to register their SIM Cards with ease.

Mr Enoch Fianya, another Subscriber at Kadjebi, said although the exercise took him a few minutes to complete, there was the need for additional time to allow the subscribers in hinterlands to have their Sim Cards registered.

The National Communication Authority (NCA) in October 2021 commenced a six-month nationwide SIM Card Registration exercise to help curb fraudulent and criminal activities, secure SIM Card-based transaction, help determine at every point in time the accurate number of valid and accurate SIMs on the networks, help develop and build a SIM database, among others.
