Kokrokoo Charities Foundation donates incubator to Swedru Government Hospital

Swedru, Feb 10, GNA – The Swedru Government Hospital has received an incubator worth 10,000 dollars from the Kokrokoo Charities Foundation to augment quality health care of premature babies delivered at the hospital.

Mr Richard Ekow Quansah, the Chief Executive Officer of Richie Plantations Company Limited, donated the incubator through the Foundation, upon a request by Kwame Sefa Kayi, the founder, to provide an incubator to the Hospital, which was in dire need of the equipment.

He promised to donate two more to the hospital to bring the number to three and asked Dr Julius Abudu, the Medical Superintendent, to furnish him with a list of medical equipment needed at the Maternity Ward to facilitate their acquisition.

Mr Quansah, a native of Agona Swedru, who’s company deals in food processing and cultivation of tree seedlings, said he had also presented 200 packs of mineral water and 200 bags of sachet water to the management of the hospital to be served to patients.

He expressed worry over the negative attitude of some doctors, nurses and paramedics towards patients who sought health care at the various health facilities and urged the caregivers to handle patients with decency as mandated by their profession.

Mr Sefa Kayi said the donation to the Swedru Hospital brings to 42 the number of incubators, so far, presented to health facilities across the country.

The Kokrokoo Charities had projected to donate 100 incubators to the various hospitals countrywide to promote infant healthcare, he said, and commended Mr Quansah for making good his promise without hesitancy.

Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Central Regional Minister, expressed gratitude to Mr Quansah for his tremendous support to improve health, agriculture and job creation in the region.

She recalled his support during the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic, when he donated large numbers of PPE to the Swedru Government Hospital, to complement government’s efforts towards sustainable healthcare delivery.

Dr Abudu, on his part, thanked the donor for the kind gesture saying the hospital delivers about 350 babies a month and appealed to individuals and organisations for more incubators to help save the lives of preterm babies.

He assured the donor that the Hospital would take good care of the equipment to serve the purpose for which it was procured.

Mr Yaw Esuon Arthur, a Bio- Medical Engineer, and Mr Dennis Adu Twum, Programmes Manager of Kokrokoo Charities, during the installations of the incubator, educated the nurses at the maternity ward on its correct usage.

Mr Evans Onomah Coleman, the Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, thanked the donor for the kind gesture and gave the assurance that the Assembly would do all in its power to ensure smooth healthcare delivery in the area.

Mrs Cynthia Morrison, Member of Parliament for Agona West, said the donation was timely to help save lives of preterm babies and give hope to mothers.

Nana Kweku Esieni, the Nifahene of Swedruman Council of Chiefs, who chaired the function, commended Messieurs Quansah and Sefa Kayi for their efforts to solve critical health challenges of the Hospital.
