Accra, Feb. 04, GNA – Mr Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister for Roads and Highways, says necessary measures to terminate and repackage the Agortoe-Tregui-Bekpo road contract are being instituted.
“Mr Speaker, contract for the bituminous surfacing of the entire 22-kilometre Adutor—Tregui—Bleamezado feeder road ,including the Agortoe—Tregui—Bekpo section, was awarded on December 7, 2016 with an expected completion date of February 17, 2018.
“The contractor abandoned the site after achieving 40 per cent of physical progress. Efforts to get the contractor back to the site have since failed,” he said.
Mr Amoako-Atta said on the floor of Parliament on Friday when Mr Richard Kwame Sefe, the Member of Parliament, MP, for Anlo asked him why construction works on Agortoe—Tregui—Bekpo and Kome Junction—Fiaxor had been stalled.
“Mr Speaker, the Department of Feeder Roads is instituting the necessary measures to terminate the contract and repackage for re-award,” Mr Amoako-Atta, who is also the MP for Atiwa West said.
He noted that the contract is expected to be repackaged for re-award after the termination by the end of the second quarter of 2022.
The Agortoe—Tregui—Bekpo feeder road is a section of the 22-kilometre Adutor—Tregui—Bleamezado feeder road in the Anlo District of the Volta Region.
Meanwhile, the 8 kilometre Kome Junction—Fiaxor road, which is partially engineered and in poor condition, has no programme on the road.
However, according to Mr Amoako-Atta, it is expected that engineering studies would be conducted during the second quarter of 2022 for a cost estimate to be prepared for consideration under the 2023 budget.
