Amasaman, Feb. 3, GNA – Mr Clement Wilkinson, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga West has charged the residents in the area to be up and doing to meet the expectation of the “Operation Clean Your Frontage” campaign.
He said the expectation of the campaign was to ensure that the environment was clean to fulfill the vision of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa and to prevent diseases.
“We must all put our shoulders to wheel to ensure that the campaign is sustained,” Mr Wilkinson said this when he launched the initiative at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.
He said government officials cannot be everywhere to monitor the conduct of people and asked the citizens to play their civic roles by being watchful over one another to ensure that everybody complied with the sanitation bye-laws and added that nobody would be shielded when he or she goes contrary to laws.
Mr Wilkinson said the Assembly would enforce the laws to the letter and that anyone arrest for flouting the rules would be severely punished to serve as a deterrent to others and that the Police and other security agencies were on the alert to ensure that the objective of campaign was achieved.
He said Environmental Health Officers have been trained and that they would be visiting home to check insanitary conditions while assemblymen and women have been selected to educate the public through several languages to drum home the campaign message.
He stated that five refuse transfer stations have been established in the municipality and that the refuse trucks would be working in the night to clear the garbage from the stations.
