Kumasi Feb. 01, GNA – Doctors of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi have postponed their intended strike to February 4, this year.
The decision follows a meeting with the management of the hospital and representatives of the Ministry of Health in Kumasi on Monday.
A statement signed by Dr Kwame Nyame, Vice Chairman of the Komfo Anokye Doctors Association (KADA) and issued in Kumasi said “the decision was taken after a show of some commitment by the hospital management and the Ministry of Health to end the long-standing stalemate in the fulfilment of our signed conditions of service in 2019”.
The doctors declared their intention to embark on the strike from Tuesday February 01, this year, to demand payment of their car maintenance allowance and what they call, ‘the 13th Month allowance’.
According to the statement, the parties agreed during the meeting that by the close of working hours on Thursday February 3, 2022, there would be a clear and concise payment schedule for the workers.
On the issue of the 13th month allowance, there was a resolution among the parties that it was being resolved at the national level among the Ministry of Health, the teaching hospitals, national labour commission, Ghana Medical Association and other stakeholders.
There was therefore the understanding that all the parties would wait for what would come out from the meetings of the stakeholders.
The statement assured the doctors that the leadership of the association remained resolute and committed to its mandated cause.
