Local Committee, Council of Churches hold thanksgiving service for Appiatse

Bogoso (W/R), Jan. 31, GNA – The Local Committee of Appiatse, in collaboration with the Council of Churches in Bogoso, has held an interdenominational thanksgiving service for residents of Appiatse to ask for God’s guidance and protection after the fatal explosion that displaced the whole community.

The event, held at the Appiatse relief camp at Dumase new site, was a moment of worship, praise and intercessory prayers by the local council of churches.

It was on the theme: “When you pass through the waters, l will be with you: and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you, when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned: the flames will not set you ablaze, Isaiah 43:2”.

Apostle Onyinah Gyamfi, the Church of Pentecost Area Head of Bogoso, emphasised the importance of thanksgiving in all situations.

“We had no idea that this incident would happen. Let us strengthen ourselves. From the scriptures we know what Job went through. Let us accept what happened and do away with speaking against God,” he said.

“As Christians we believe that everything happens by the will of God. We have shed tears and we are still sorrowful but let us ask for protection from the almighty and encourage ourselves with His word because with Him by our side there is nothing we cannot handle”.

Dr Isaac Dasmani, the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Chief Executive, called on the residents to remain calm and pledged his support towards their wellbeing.

“You have my support and that of the Government so I will make sure that the donated items will be used to the benefit of the people within the community”.

The Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni-Valley, Mr Robert Wisdom Cudjoe, entreated the people to collectively render unqualified gratitude to God.

Even though some residents had lost their loved ones and property, they should not be discouraged but continue to have faith and confidence in the Lord, he said.

Nana Kwadwo Atta Bremebi II, the Divisional Chief of Beppoh, asked his people to be patient while government worked to satisfy their needs.

He urged them to use the opportunity to thank the Government and the various organisations for the immense support.

On Thursday, January 20, 2022 a truck conveying explosives had an accident along the Bogoso-Bawdie road resulting in a huge explosion at Appiatse, killing 17 people, injuring 179, and displacing more than 300 residents.

Vice President Bawumia led a government delegation to the community to commiserate with the bereaved families and the injured.

On behalf of the Government, he donated GHc200,000 for the upkeep of the affected persons.
