Appiatse (W/R), Jan 29, GNA – Newmont Ghana has supported the victims of Appiatse explosion with construction materials and consumables to help them to return to normal lives.
The items donated included; packs of roofing sheets, iron rods, bags of cement and other consumables.
Mr Agbeko Azumah, Director, Communication and External Relations on behalf of Regional Senior Vice President, presented the items to the Municipal Chief Exective (MCE), Dr Isaac Dasmani, on behalf of the company.
Mr Francois Hardy, Regional Senior Vice President, Newmont Africa, in a speech read on his behalf, said the donation was in response to the government’s call to support in the rebuilding of the Appiatse community.
He stated that “Newmont Ghana is supporting the relief efforts for the victims of the tragic explosion that occurred at Appiatse last Thursday, 20th January 2022.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured speedy recovery. We recognize that this is a difficult period for all and extend our support to everyone affected” Mr Hardy said.
He commended the security services, the regulatory agencies and other governmental organisations for their prompt emergency response and relief efforts in the wake of the tragedy, the statement said.
Mr Hardy, appealed to their counterparts in the mining industry to review their high risk material transportation practices and consider incorporating learnings from the Appiatse explosion investigations to ensure improvements and the continued protection of lives and property.
Dr Isaac Dasmani, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Prestea Huni-Valley, who received the items expressed appreciation to Newmont Ghana for its support and eulogized them for their contributions.
“Thank you for remembering us. These items are timely and would really go a long way to help us provide the needed assistance to our brothers and sisters” he added.
