North Suntreso (Ash), Jan. 29, GNA – The Unique Royal Club, a charitable organization in Kumasi, has commissioned and handed over a 10-bed isolation centre to the North Suntreso Government Hospital.
The facility, which was funded by the Club at the total cost of GHc 295,000.00, will help the hospital to handle infectious diseases, especially COVID-19 cases in Kumasi.
It consists of male and female wards equipped with television sets and washrooms, store rooms and offices for health professionals.
Mr. Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, speaking at the brief ceremony, commended the Club for assisting the hospital with the facility to handle infectious diseases.
He said it would go a long way to assist the hospital, the region and Ghana as a whole to manage and stop the spread of the disease.
The Minister advised the health officials to exercise patience with the patients brought to the facility for medical attention, and appealed to the management of the hospital to put the facility to good use to prolong its lifespan.
It was commissioned under the theme “Building social partnership for sustainable health delivery.”
Mr. Anthony Kofi Gyamfi, the Chairman of the Club, said the facility was in response to a request made by the management of the hospital when the Club presented some personal protective equipment during the peak of the covid-19 pandemic.
He said the management of the hospital during the occasion expressed grave concern about the lack of an isolation centre for the management of COVID-19 cases and other infectious diseases.
It was in response to this critical need that the Club undertook this landmark project to resolve this gap and to save lives, Mr. Gyamfi said.
According to the Chairman, the Club over the past 10 years had provided support in various forms, mostly critical life-saving equipment to numerous health facilities in the Ashanti region.
Among the beneficiary hospitals, he said, the Club donated a Patient Monitor to the Kumasi South Hospital, Blood Bank Fridge to Manhyia Hospital, and a Mechanical Ventilator to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
In addition, the Chairman said the activities of the Club were not restricted to Hospitals alone, but other social responsibilities.
Mr. Gyamfi added that the Club built and equipped a vocational training centre for the female division of the Kumasi Prisons to ensure productive prison graduates who would become useful to society.
He commended the contributions of past Chairmen, Dr. Akwasi Tweneboa Kodua (REES Motors) and George Kwaku Kumi (CEO, Stadium Hotel) who through sacrifices laid the foundation for the success of the Club and consequently the Royal Isolation Center project.
He was hopeful that the facility would be put to good use and maintained as living testimony to their collective sacrifices and to inspire other social clubs to emulate this enduring gesture.
Dr. Agarko Opoku, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital was impressed with the assistance from the Club since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and pledged to take good care of the facility to help prolong its lifespan.
