Taviefe (V/R), Jan. 25, GNA – The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Foundation is constructing a 160-bed capacity girls dormitory for the Taviefe Senior High School in the Ho Municipality.
The Project, when completed, would help meet the accommodation needs of the 400 female boarders.
The building, two single-storey structures and a twelve-seater sanitary facility would be delivered by Supremo Construction within six months.
Dr Dominic Eduah, Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, broke grounds for the construction, saying the support fell under its education and training module, which had sponsored more than 6,000 students to study at both local and international universities, while also supporting school infrastructure development.
He said as part of efforts to get the facility maintained, it would be named after Mrs Gina Blay, Ghana’s Ambassador to Germany, who would ensure its maintenance.
Madam Rose Manu, the headmistress, said 414 females out of 474 were boarders, while its present female dormitory had space for about 150.
“Students are sleeping on the floor and we have converted three classrooms into dormitories but still it’s not enough.
“We even have shared them among housemistresses,” she said, declaring that the Foundation’s project would bring relief to the school.
The headmistress said the school and the community would forever be grateful to Mrs Gina Blay, a native, whose efforts helped secure the crucial intervention.
She noted that although the male boarding population had a new dormitory facility, no furniture had been provided, and that help would be welcome in that regard.
The headmistress called for support for the construction of a perimeter fence to keep out intruders.
Mr Divine Bosson, Municipal Chief Executive for Ho, pledged the Assembly’s support for the project.
Traditional and religious leaders also promised support from the community and offered special prayers to secure the project.
The GNPC Foundation was formed in 2017 with a mandate to support community development in the oil enclave and had since spread its help to cover all regions in the Country.
