Appiatse Explosion: GNAT commiserates with families of victims

Accra, Jan. 21, GNA – The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has commiserated with families of victims of the explosion that occurred at Appiatse near Bogoso on Thursday.

“GNAT has received reports from members about how the incident has affected the entire Appiatse Community, including school operations and triggered psychological effects on teachers and students in the area,” the Association said in a press release copied to the Ghana News Agency.

It appealed to the Ghana Education Service to identify schools in the adjoining communities and assist them with counselling support.

The Association called for the provision of psychological healthcare support to survivors.

It also called for investigation into the disaster and commended the Ghana Police Service, National Disaster Management Organisation, Ghana National Fire Service, for the rescue response.

The explosion, which occurred at Appiatse in the Prestea-Huni Valley in the Western Region, left 17 people dead and 59 injured.
