Nzema community pays courtesy call on National Chief Imam

Accra, Jan 20,GNA – A cross-section of Nzemas in the Western Region have paid a courtesy call on the National Chief Imam Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu at his residence in Fadama to cement their relations with him as a native of Nzema.

The courtesy call was also to inform the Chief Imam of an intended homecoming summit for him.

The delegation, led by Mr.Ali Nuhu Abekah, a resident of Kamgbunli in the Ellembelle District, was at the Imam’s residence to inform him about their intentions to celebrate him as an illustrious son of Nzemaland.

The move, followed an earlier interaction with the Queen of Upper Axim, Obahema Erza Ngonloma II and the National Chief Imam at his residence in Accra.

According to the delegation, plans were afoot to organize a homecoming summit for the National Chief Imam in the Nzema area in March this year.

Mr.Abekah told the office of the national Chief Imam that the Islamic community at Kamgbunli in the Ellembelle District was ready to receive him as their spiritual father in the country.

The National Chief Imam, Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu who spoke through his secretary, Mr.Abu Zenuwah expressed his readiness to go with his family in Accra to Axim where his mother comes from.

He said the best comes from the West, adding that the Western Region abounds in rich natural resources and had produced illustrious sons and daughters who had contributed to the peace and rapid socio-economic development of the country.

Sheik Nuhu Sharabutu who belongs to the Nvavile clan, said he and his family had been in the Nzema area before notably Axim and believed he was a repository of the history of Nzema.

He said there had been a protracted family dispute with another family and since then he and his family had been in Accra.
He said Allah created human beings in a unique way and stressed the need to foster unity in diversity and strengthen the bond of affinity.

He paid a glowing tribute to the past generation for building sound relations as a pillar for the current generation to build upon.

The Paramount Chief of Upper Axim in the Nzema-East Municipality, Awulae Abrokwa II said there had been a long standing family dispute that the National Chief Imam and his family came from Kano in Nigeria, a claim he refuted, adding that it was the Chief Imam’s father who came from Kano.

He said the Chief Imam’s mother was an indigene of Axim making him a son of Nzemaland.

The Queenmother of Upper Axim, Nana Ngonloma said family litigation must not impede the homecoming of the National Chief Imam and assured his office that the planning committee would work hard to ensure a successful homecoming summit.

The delegation donated assorted food stuffs and soft drinks to the office of the Chief Imam.
